Artist Bio
Zemma Kitchen is currently a studio Art major at Principia College in Illinois. She grew up in Bozeman Montana where she attended Bozeman High School which helped her develop her love for art. Her primary focus in school is on graphic design but in her free time she also explores the realms of painting, prints and sculpture.
Zemma was raised by a family of storytellers. Her father was the base manager of the West Yellowstone Smokejumper base and would often come home late and tell her and her sisters about the adventures he had been on that day. This aspect of storytelling shows up in her work and the fantasy themes that show up throughout her work.
Her art reaches for the essence of that childlike wonder that sees magic leaking out of every little cranny.
The majority of her work presents itself as scratchy little line drawings done in ink but when she does delve into the realm of color she seeks out very vibrant bright colors full of life, which reflects the same magic world she grew up with.
She is drawn to architecture, specifically castles and old cathedrals in many of her sketches and had initially planned to pursue a degree in architectural engineering.
